When we think of our health many of us associate it with diet and exercise alone. How many of us stop and think about the environment around us and how it contributes to our overall well-being? Food for thought…..

How does our environment influence the choices we make? Are we surrounded by like-minded people that challenge us to make the best decisions for ourselves, or do we find ourselves in situations that are negative and bring us down?

How often do we get up and get outside? Nature is calming and brings massive benefits that contribute to our overall well-being. It is important to get outside every single day! Weather it is for a walk, building a snowman in the winter months or just shoveling the driveway. Being outside will benefit you more than you know.

How often do we ‘detox’ from electronics? Is your smart phone or tablet always on and are you always available? It is so important to mindfully be aware of just how much we are surrounded by our electronic devices. Set daily limits on how many hours in a day you are ‘turned on electronically’, be mindful of powering down and getting grounded! Do not bring your smart phones to bed with you and be present when socializing by turning off your phone. It is easy to get distracted by always being connected. Disconnect once in a while and recognize how awesome it can be to get back to our current reality!

Health is so much more than food and exercise. Challenge yourself and reflect on your 2019 goals. Do they comprise of environmental factors that may influence your health decisions? If we create an environment for ourselves that is less toxic, making better decisions such as eating healthier and exercising will feel like less of a chore and more of a desire.
